This condition results in the baby leaving the womb before it is fully developed, which can lead to various health problems and a more familiar environment with incubators.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">An incubator is a transparent plastic crib-like device. This device protects premature babies from noise and bacteria and provides warmth. Below are some other reasons why premature babies need an incubator:<\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maintain the body temperature of the baby and the surrounding area. <\/strong>Premature babies desperately need warm air and protection from the cold. In an incubator, the baby will receive warm air and be protected from bacteria and infection. Even while the baby is in the incubator, the mother can still have contact with her baby. The nurse will instruct you on how to safely interact with your baby.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Providing oxygen. <\/strong>Some premature babies may experience breathing problems and require more oxygen. The oxygen equipment in the incubator will help your baby get the oxygen they need.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Provides the nutrition that babies need. <\/strong>Nutrition is essential for a baby&#039;s development. In the incubator, besides being kept warm, the baby will also receive the necessary nutrients through a naso-gastric tube and an intravenous catheter.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitor the baby&#039;s condition. <\/strong>Babies born prematurely require special attention to their health. Most modern neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) have heart function monitors, body temperature monitors, respiration monitors, and brain activity monitors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maintain moisture and fluid balance in the baby&#039;s body. <\/strong> The incubator maintains fluid balance and humidity within the incubator. This is done to prevent fluid loss through the skin and respiratory evaporation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once your baby is deemed strong enough to leave the incubator, he or she will be allowed to go home. Before going home, the baby will usually be moved to a transition unit, where the temperature is around 18 degrees Celsius. Once the baby is deemed strong enough, the nurse will also show you how to give your baby their first bath, how to keep their lips moist, how to clean their mouth, and how to change their diaper.<\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"justify\">Don&#039;t worry about not being able to see or interact with your baby while they&#039;re in the incubator.
