  2. Psychological aspects: spacing births and bringing the baby closer to the family.
  3. Convenience aspect: Very practical so it can be given anywhere and anytime and does not bother other people.

IMD

Early breastfeeding initiation occurs within the first hour of birth, by placing the baby on the mother's chest, creating skin-to-skin contact. The baby will begin to crawl to find the mother's nipple and suckle. This skin-to-skin contact stimulates milk flow, fostering bonding between mother and baby, and fostering development. This is provided that both mother and baby are in stable condition.

Join Care

Join care This is a process of supporting mothers and babies so they can be cared for together continuously in the same room while in the hospital. During this care, the baby is placed in a crib near the mother's bed for easy access.

Conditions for Joining Care

  1. Mother and baby are in stable condition.
  2. The baby has no serious congenital defects
  3. Birth weight ≥ 2500 to 4000 grams
  4. .Babies born at 37-42 weeks gestation
  5. No risk factors

Benefits of Joint Care

  1. Speed up the breastfeeding process because frequent sucking by the baby will facilitate breast milk production.
  2. Colostrum is breast milk that comes out on the first day and contains immune substances/antibodies.
  3. Continuous contact between mother and baby will enable breastfeeding on demand (when the baby wants) and help the mother recognize the baby's habits (wants to drink, when urinating/defecating).
  4. Strengthening the bonding process (emotional bond between mother and baby)
  5. Provides a sense of comfort to the baby because he is always close to his mother, and there is skin contact which provides warmth to the baby.
  6. Make mothers skilled in caring for their babies independently, because the hospital is a transitional phase for mothers to practice and still allows them to ask questions and learn with nurses, so that when caring for babies at home it is no longer awkward.

Breastfeeding skills can be obtained by attending lactation classes so you can practice directly

Balanced Nutrition for Breastfeeding Mothers

Breastfeeding mothers must consume food with the principle of balanced nutrition. Because, balanced nutrition while breastfeeding is an important need for breastfeeding mothers and is closely related to the production of breast milk, which is very necessary for the growth and development of babies.

  1. Breastfeeding mothers need more nutrients than those who are not breastfeeding, because the nutrients in breast milk are obtained from the mother's food.
  1. Food for breastfeeding mothers must be able to meet the needs of the mother herself and the nutritional content of breast milk.
  2. Food with balanced nutrition can produce sufficient breast milk so that mother and baby have good nutritional status.
  3. Eat a variety of foods that contain:

Carbohydrates: Rice, sweet potatoes, potatoes, cassava, vermicelli, noodles, bread, macaroni and corn

Animal protein: fish, meat, eggs, poultry, milk and dairy products

Vegetable Protein: Tofu, tempeh, nuts and their processed products (soy milk)

Omega 3 fats: salmon, tuna, snapper, mackerel, lemuru, mackerel, sardines and skipjack

DHA is an essential omega-3 fatty acid needed by babies for brain development. You can enrich your breast milk with DHA by consuming fish 2-3 times per week.

Vitamins and minerals: Vegetables (katuk leaves, cassava, spinach, carrots, mustard greens)

                                               – Fruit (Banana, Papaya, Orange, Watermelon, etc.)

  1. Support from husband and family

The support of a husband and family is crucial for maintaining a happy mental state, which impacts breast milk production. Adequate rest for mothers, along with family support, is crucial for caring for their little one.

  1. Recognize the problems faced by breastfeeding mothers
  2. Sore nipples when breastfeeding

If the baby's mouth does not latch on properly, the baby will suck or pull the nipple too deeply, which can hurt the nipple.

How to overcome :

  1. Make sure the baby sucks the entire nipple and areola of the breast when breastfeeding.
  2. When you want to remove the nipple from the baby's suction, separate the baby's mouth from the nipple slowly by pressing the part of the breast near the baby's mouth using your index finger.
  3. Let the nipples dry before dressing again.
  4. Avoid using soap on your nipples as it can dry out your skin.
  5. Apply a warm compress to the nipple.
  6. Get used to starting breastfeeding from the breast that doesn't feel sore first.
  7. It is best to wear a cotton bra so that air circulation in the breasts is good, it is even better if you wear a nursing bra.
  8. Applying a small amount of breast milk to the affected area can help speed healing. The antibodies in breast milk help maintain nipple health.

Swollen Breasts While Breastfeeding

Caused by the accumulation of breast milk due to the ducts that are supposed to carry breast milk from the mammary glands to the nipples becoming blocked and if this is not immediately resolved it can cause inflammation (mastitis).

How to overcome :

  • Breastfeed as often as your baby wants and don't stop if he/she is not satisfied.
  • If your baby has had enough milk but your breasts still have plenty of milk, you can express it by pumping, either with an electric or manual breast pump.
  • Apply warm or cold compresses to the breasts to reduce pain.
  • Wear a bra that is not too tight because it can restrict the flow of breast milk.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if the swelling does not go away.
  1. Too little breast milk production

Too little or too little breast milk production can cause anxiety and worry for mothers, especially if this is your first time having a baby and starting to breastfeed.

The good news is, low breast milk production can actually be overcome as long as mothers know when their babies want to breastfeed.

The more often the baby breastfeeds, the faster the breast milk will empty, so that breastfeeding problems for both mother and baby can be resolved.

How to overcome :

  • Give your baby breast milk as often as possible or as requested by your baby.
  • Avoid stress and consume plenty of foods that can increase breast milk production.
  • Make sure the baby is breastfeeding correctly by attaching the baby's mouth, some babies may have difficulty breastfeeding if they experience certain conditions, for example tongue tie.
  • Make sure you get enough rest, eat, and drink.
  • You can consult a doctor to find out if there are any possible health problems.
  1. Too much breast milk production

The opposite of low breast milk production, excessive breast milk production can also make breastfeeding difficult.

This condition can be a challenge and a breastfeeding problem for both mother and baby.

The opposite of low breast milk production, excessive breast milk production can also make breastfeeding difficult.

This condition can be a challenge and a breastfeeding problem for both mother and baby.

This is because excessive breast milk production can result in blocked breast ducts, breast swelling, and even mastitis.

In addition, this breastfeeding problem can also be difficult for both mother and baby because it causes pressure on the breasts.

As a result, let-down reflex During breastfeeding, it can become uncontrolled, causing the flow of breast milk to leak out of the breast very easily.

For babies, this condition can cause excess gas in the stomach, fussiness, spitting up, and vomiting after breastfeeding.

How to overcome :

  • Try offering your baby only one breast at a time, then offering the other breast a few minutes later.
  • Try breastfeeding while lying down or leaning back in a chair. This gravity-defying position can help slow the flow of milk.
  • Pump your breasts to reduce the amount of milk.
  • Try to breastfeed your baby before he is really hungry to prevent him from sucking too much.
  • Understand about lactation management for working mothers

is an effort made by mothers to achieve success in breastfeeding their babies, especially for working mothers.
